Miranda's class, after the "Dress a Mummy Contest" (notice that Olivia found her way into the picture, also).
The winning mummy
Miranda being wrapped up. Her team didn't do it too speedy, but they got it done.

Like many children her age, Olivia is full of questions. I'm sure Paul and Miranda asked me a lot of interesting ones, too, but as time goes by you tend to forget them. These questions all came in the space of about one hour...
"Mom, what is blood made of?"
"Mom, how do babies come out?" (this sounds like one for Dad)
"Mom, how do we milk cows?"
"Mom, how do flies go to the potty?"
"Mom, why do the days keep changing?" (we'd been talking about the different days of the week, and figuring out what comes after Monday, what comes after Tuesday, etc...)

This one's sort of for my mom....finally, a clip of Paul playing his trombone. This is "Lightly Row," in case you aren't up on beginning band songs. Stay tuned--we're hoping for "Flight of the Bumblebee" by January. :)

Olivia came home from preschool with a Red Ribbon sticker on her shirt. I asked her what the sticker was for, and she said, "Say no to grubs."
I will. How about you? Will you say no to grubs?
I wonder if they do hearing checks for the preschoolers?

We've been celebrating Aaron's birthday, which was today, for about a week now. Last week we had a little get-together with a few other couples to celebrate Aaron and Mike's 35th birthday (such old men, aren't they??) The first couple of pictures are from that. You might be able to see that Aaron is tickling Miranda in one of them. This is something I love about my husband--he pays a lot of attention to the kids, and is always playing with them, whether it's a computer game with Paul, or a tickle-fest with one of the girls.
Today we went to Minden with the band. I'm not sure it would be anyone's greatest birthday wish--to spend the entire day with a bunch of Jr. High/HS kids, but it was pretty fun overall. Then, tonight we went and watched the HS students put on their one-act play. Tomorrow evening we'll actually get to celebrate Aaron's birthday as a family, which will be a nice end to the weekend, hopefully.

Most of you who know me know that I LOVE the band Downhere....they are, however, underrated, in my opinion, so most of you have probably never heard of them. They've just put out their 4th album, and I think it's their best! Check out their website or MySpace page if you want to hear some of their songs. Here are the lyrics for one of their new songs....I just love it because it describes me so well....I think many of us (especially those of us with small children) are always looking down the road so far, and forgetting that there are many treasures right before us.
Don't Miss Now
The life you chose -
There's never a list for it
Of cons and pros
You find what you love,
and you commit
And you're looking so far down
The road so well
That you could forget your crown
Isn't just somewhere else
You get bumped and bruised and worse
For choosing the road less traveled
You know the reward is rich
If you persist through the darkest battles
Open your eyes,
Your prize is right before you, somehow
Whatever you do, just don't miss now
You're on a bus
Don't notice the miles and months fly by
To the rest of us
You're living the highest kind of life
And though the price you pay
Is costlier than it seems
It's worth another day
The end justifies your means
All that you're working for
Could blind you to the treasures all around you
So don't miss these moments, please
The joy before the crown you seek

I went to parent-teacher conferences this morning. Not to brag or anything :-), but they're doing great :-) Just to sum it up, Paul's teacher said he's "correctable," (must mean that he needs correction occasionally) Miranda's said she needs to slow down a little and that she's always sitting in her chair in crazy ways (like, sitting on her legs, putting one knee up next to her face, etc.), and Olivia's teacher said it's obvious she's had discipline. So I guess it was a pretty good report. One thing that 2 of the teachers also said was that, "we know where to find you if there are any problems." I guess that's true, considering my classroom is only about 50 yards from the preschool room!

Miranda made chocolate chip cookies last night, basically without any help from me. All I did was take them in and out of the oven. I was really proud of her, and I must say that they are excellent. When Olivia was eating one at bedtime, she asked, "what's the recipe for these?" It was just funny because I didn't know that she even knew the word "recipe."
Mom, why do you always have to get out your camera? Miranda is going through a phase right now of not wanting her picture taken, but I was too quick for her.

It started with a major fit by Olivia...for some reason she decided today that she didn't want to go to preschool. She's never, ever come close to complaining about going, and then today when we pulled up to the bus, she went ballistic. I had to drag her, basically kicking and screaming. She was perfectly happy when she got home. Who knows?
The day improved, as I had MOPS, and we made this fun craft. Thanks, Tiffany! It's a mini-scrapbook. Cute, huh??!!
I should back up and say that I'm having driving issues...last night when I got home from AWANA, I didn't pull in far enough to the garage before I tried to close the garage door. That didn't work too well....then, this morning, I started to back out before the door was completely up. Needless to say, the garage door had some problems. Luckily, Aaron was able to fix it (pretty much)....then, this afternoon I noticed that the carpet was damp around the fridge. At first I thought that one of the kids had spilled some water....a little later I noticed that the wetness seemed to be spreading....yep, it was a leak in the part where the water comes into the water/ice dispenser...once again, my wonderful husband was able to fix it, after sending me to Imperial for a part. What a guy.
Dig the shirt? It's homecoming week and today was "Mardi Gras" day.
Sonya thinks this day was exhausting! I agree!
