"Free" at last

Today was Sonya's 3rd birthday. The baby days are long-gone at this house!!! While that's kind of sad, I suppose I wouldn't really want her to stay a baby forever. We just had a simple celebration at home. Our menu consisted of Mac 'n' cheese (what else??!!) tropical fruit salad, and berry blue shakes. Her main gift was a Barbie Big Wheel, but the $1 toy phone I got her at Alco has been the big hit so far!!!

Sonya's Strawberry Shortcake (sort-of) "pupcakes." All day long it was, "I want to have pupcakes." Luckily, she took a good nap, so I was able to make them without her "help." :)

Time to open presents

Wow, I like it!!!

Sonya had lots of helpers....

And Olivia even offered to help play with the toys.

It took about 5 blows for 3 candles....I guess she's not as windy as her mom!

A Bone for Paul

Well, the time has come for one of our own kids to start band. It's kind of been interesting going through the whole process with Paul--helping him decide what to play, and actually purchasing the instrument. It gives me a new perspective being on the parent side of things, as opposed to the teacher side (although I'm still on the teacher side, too) As you can see, Paul has chosen to play trombone, which we're pretty excited about. The one he's holding is actually a school trombone, as his hasn't gotten here yet. After MUCH looking and bidding on good old eBay, I FINALLY won one today. Note to self: don't wait until late August to start bidding--we're going to make Miranda decide in May!!! (she's saying oboe; I'm thinking I'd better get another job-yikes)

Another computer geek in the making

Well, I should have figured it wouldn't be long before Sonya started to be able to run the mouse, etc... I was learning computer skills, how to run a mouse, etc....when I was starting high school! Well, actually we had computer class in middle school, but it was on those old Apple IIe machines, with the little "turtle." Times have changed!!!

Photo session

Renee took these pictures of Olivia and Sonya tonight. It had been over a year since the last session, so it was definitely time! I'm really excited about them!

Fun with Sonya

When we were in Wal-mart the other day, this is the conversation Sonya and Aaron had. I was shopping with Olivia, so I may not be quoting this exactly, but you get the idea.
First of all, we must set the scene. They were walking by the lingere department.

Sonya: (seeing bras) You don't wear those, Daddy.
Aaron: You're right.
Sonya: Mommy wears those. They're for her bottles. I don't have very big bottles.

School days, school days

Well, we started school today, much to the delight of Paul and Miranda. I'm not so delighted, but I'll get over it. Miranda was up at 4:45 getting ready, then she and her friend walked to the park together (they arranged this last night) to pick flowers for their teacher (talk about brown-nosing, huh?). Needless to say, Miranda was ready in plenty of time for our 7:30 departure!

Grant stayed with us for a few days last week. He and Paul had a blast together, as you can see in these pictures :-) I didn't take pictures of them playing computer games or building with Legos, so these 2 pictures will have to suffice.
Grandpa and Grandma were also here last week, helping with the roof. We are so grateful for their help!

Fair time

We went over to the fair last night and did the whole ride thing. Paul, Grant, and Miranda pretty much did their own thing, so I only got one picture of them (and Miranda wasn't around, actually, so it's just the boys).

It's kind of hard to see, but I like Olivia's expression in this picture....

Sonya the boater

Sonya's driving Austin cute!

Smoke on the Mountain

Last night and Sunday, we had our performance of "Smoke on the Mountain." It was so fun! Aaron and I also sang a duet, and I sang a solo. The whole thing will definitely go down as a highlight of my summer.

In other news, our roof is basically done. Yay!!! Aaron's folks left today. We are so grateful for their willingness to come and help. It was great having them.

Oh, and by the way, say one thing about my bib overalls, and you'll be getting them for Christmas or your birthday. Got it??? :-)

Slightly-used toddler for sale

Ok, I'm just kidding, but believe me, Miss Sonya has been a challenge lately. She's become so independent, yet she gets so frustrated while she's trying to do something. But if I offer to help, she goes nuts. So I basically just have to stand back and let her be frustrated (and plug my ears). This group of pictures shows her when she was dressing in the Minnie Mouse dress....through all the moods she went through (although I can't properly capture it here; should have taken a video :-), to the final picture, where she's her happy self.

Minnie Mouse

Grandma always manages to find the cutest things at garage sales. One of the treasures she brought this time was this brand-new Minnie Mouse costume. Olivia was eager to model it.

Fun on the roof

Well, thanks to the hailstorm earlier this summer, we're putting on a new roof. Yesterday they started ripping off the old shingles...with help from Peter, Matthew, Aaron's Dad, Paul, and even Miranda. I'm glad our roof isn't steep, or this mommmy would be having a cow about now. :-)

Hi, Mom! I hate how grown-up he looks up there.

Miranda wasn't too happy that I had my camera out. I think she hates the fact that I'm a blogger.

But I managed to catch her looking at me (and she looks so happy, doesn't she???)

Week in review

Well, fortunately, I didn't get sick like the rest of the family. God answered my prayers, and I know my Mom was praying, too, so thanks, Mom! This week would have been a terrible time to be under the weather (is there ever a good time?), as Aaron and I are involved in a musical variety show over in Imperial, so we've been going to practices every day. It's been really fun. The music is gospel/bluegrass, and it's been awesome working with some really talented musicians. It's been good for my soul, as I would say that's the main drawback to living in a place like this--not many opportunities to perform and be "stretched" musically. Anyway, we're performing Sunday and Monday as a part of the Chase Co. Fair. I can't wait!

In other news, Paul and Miranda both passed their levels in swimming lessons. Paul is done now, unless he wants to go on to become a lifeguard. Their teacher said that Miranda probably should have just taken the same level as Paul, and skipped her level. Oh well.....sometimes it's good to let Paul stay just a tiny bit ahead :-)

Well, to continue my medical report from a few posts down, Aaron finally got what the kids had. I'm thinking it would only be by the grace of God if I didn't get it, too, as the Dr. said it's highly contagious. As much as I held Sonya and Olivia when they were feverish, I'd say it's a miracle I don't already have it!!! Aaron wouldn't let me take his picture, so this will have to do :-)
